Last Tuesday, June 23, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Mexico shook the center and south of the country, causing at least 10 deaths, all recorded in the southern state of Oaxaca, the epicenter of the quake. The earthquake was caused by the collision of the Cocos tectonic plate and that of North America.<\/p>\n
Civil Protection of Mexico has reported that the earthquake in Mexico (the most powerful of the more than 16,000 tremors produced this year in the country) has affected 97 municipalities in Oaxaca, State of Mexico, Mexico City and Veracruz. A total of 500 private homes have been damaged and some 55 historic homes have been affected by the earthquake.<\/p>\n
As for the number of injured, the organization has so far registered 21 injured in Oaxaca, 38 in two temporary shelters and another one in Mexico City.<\/p>\n
The earthquake has also coincided with the day when the country registered more daily cases of coronavirus (more than 6,000 infections). Many hospitals and medical centers have not been able to evacuate for this reason.<\/p>\n
Given this alarming situation in Mexico, Criteria has been implementing its emergency intervention protocol since June 24 to deal with the repercussions of the earthquake. More than 150 local adjusters have been in place since the earthquake occurred in Mexico, with the support of those that the CATNAT protocol (coordinated from our Miami office together with the management of ACSA, our partner in Mexico) considers necessary from other neighboring countries.<\/p>\n
